Well guys – I am still playing at catch up with the homework from week 4. If my fingers were walking instead of typing, I think I would have circumnavigated the world. I have commented on blogs and now I have to complete another 90 comments on the “do follows” list.
What did week 5 hold for all of us? We had to:
- Install Google Analytics
- Find a Niche using Google Adwords Tool
- Research your niche
- Add RSS feeds
- and Backup your WordPress Blog
This was interesting. I had already installed Google Analytics on my site last time I went through the course. Google Analytics is a very good tool that gives lots of good information. Just let me show you some of my statistics.
The period shown is from the 20 July to 20 August. You can see as a result of my commenting on peoples blogs and these people then coming to my blog to comment has helped my traffic increase by 95.95% and total number of visitors was 339. The average page visited was 2.38 and the average time on site an amazing 7.31 minutes. There were 58.11% new visitors so that means that just over 41% were returning visitors. The bounce rate was 46.02% so that means people were staying for some time and not just clicking and leaving immediately otherwise the bounce rate would have been much higher.
If you go to “visitors” and click on “map overlay” it shows that these 339 people came from 30 countries around the world. Then click on “traffic sources” and then go down and click on “all traffic sources” – the total number of sources is 95. The total number of visitors that have come to my site since I installed Google Analytics is 1883 and they have come for 175 sources.
There is a lot we can learn from these statistics. You can drill down and know exactly how many people visit your site per day. I really enjoy examining the stats.
So this is Sue McDonald saying I must get back to commenting so I can complete all my tasks at hand because I know we are halfway through the course and Mark will introducing more homework next week.

I really like your blog. Very good posts! Please continue posting such awesome content.
Thanks – keep visiting
Hi Sue.
Thanks for your visit and kind comment. One good turn deserves another.
Your Google Analytics results I see are paying off.
Takes a lot of work before you reach that tipping point, but focus, dedication, persistence all pays off. Well done, keep it up.
Success is within your grasp.
Kind regards
Rod

Hey Sue!
Love the look and feel of your blog. I also like the fact that you’ve started a video diary – very cool.
It sounds like your a stats person like me. There’s nothing better than cold hard facts and statistics that you can get your teeth into.
Anyways, keep up the good work!
Feel free to leave a comment on my blog
Nathaniel.
Hi Sue
Just thought I’d retrun the visit, I like the blog, you have some really good info.
I’ve also checked out your video diary, the Mark Terrell one made me smile.
You may want to consider using a head set with a microphone as there is a lot of background noise on the video.
Also, check out Animoto, they have a free and paid for service and you can get a free 30 day trial of Camtasia.
Hope this helps.

Ken
Hi Nathaniel
Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Yes I started a video diary but not very well but I was given a video camera as a present last week so I hope I can produce some really good ones. I wish you every success.

Sue

Sue,
Your blog is looking good! Nice job.. word to advice here: comment on blogs which have regular posts as they traffic is probably high. I would also find the top ten internet marketing blogs and comment on those as well. This will save you time and you get the most bang for your buck! Be a success!!!!
Hi Sue
Found you through Allen & Dawn, nice people. I’m glad you’re a stats person, because that’s one of my weaker areas (plus my brain generally). Now I know you’re here I will Follow you and come back regularly. Thanks for all the work on you’re site.
Best Regards
Alan

Hi Rob
thank you for stopping by and adding a comment. Yes videos for me are hard but I will get started soon now that I have the new camera. I would love to be out using it but there are just not enough hours in the day. Maybe I will have to make time because I think it is part of our homework this week. I will just see how I go.

Hi Sue,
Anyone who tells you that commenting on blogs isn’t a time efficient way of driving traffic is missing the whole point of blogging.
The beauty of the blogosphere is that you have people of many backgrounds coming together to share their knowledge. The blogosphere works, simply through participation. Through commenting, blogs are able to grow legs, and network with other blogs, which are able to connect with others.
Simple put, there’s absolutely nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together. Any blogger who doesn’t comment on other blogs is not a “real” blogger.
Hi Trey
Yes we all need comments on our blogs. Thank you for adding one to mine.

Looks like the easiest part this week was backing up your blog, which is really easy if you use a plugin which does it automatically.
I think Google Analytics is playing up a little because it’s stats seem to be all wrong of late.
