Withdrawal Symptoms

Hi this is Sue and I feel like I am back in the land of the living. My withdrawal symptoms have gone and I hope for good. I couldn’t work yesterday and I never got my mail and I missed my friends on skype. The weather was miserable – we had 140ml ( over 5 inches) of rain in a 24 hour period.

You see, yesterday morning at a very early hour, I lost my internet connection. I felt lost so I thought I would just do some work, like completing my homework for this week and complete my video slide show. Where were the slides- in Google Docs – no, I needed the internet.

Then I thought about writing a few articles – no good I needed the net for my research. Then my next bright idea, was to do a post on my blog – nah no internet. Now there was one other project I was doing – so I went to work and started writing madly and thought I can finally do something. I was doing well until I realized I need a screen shot from the net.

At every turn, I was stopped. I complained bitterly to my husband and he said “you are an addict”. I asked him what he was going on about – I won’t even take a pain killer, so I thought what am I addicted to? He said ” you are wandering around aimless complaining because you need the internet to do your work. You have withdrawal symptoms”!

Yes, he was right. I felt lost because I just realized how much each day I use it. Has this happened to you? What did we do before we had such easy fast access? About 5 years ago, I very rarely went on the net now I am lost without it. Everywhere I travel, my faithful companion is my laptop – are we getting to be a crazy society? Think about it…it is like all of your friends are not accessible if you lose your internet connection. I was even sending out text messages to friends to say that I had no connection.

But this morning the technician arrived to fix it and told us we needed a new modem. He put that in and now I am back but he said it may be only temporary because there is a network problem which will be fixed within the next 48 hours. So while I have the connection, my symptoms have gone and I can now do the things I like doing.

So until something else goes wrong I will just keep working on the net.
